Former Kilpatrick aide Beatty behind on restitution to city
DETROIT (AP) - The former chief of staff to ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has not paid on her court-ordered restitution to the city for nearly a year.
The Detroit News reports (http://bit.ly/1AaJ0Gd ) Tuesday that Christine Beatty's last $500 payment was made Jan. 16, 2014.
Beatty and the married Kilpatrick both served jail sentences for lying in court about an affair following a text-messaging sex scandal.
City attorney Butch Hollowell tells the newspaper that the city has reached out to Beatty's lawyers. She still owes about $78,000 and now lives in Georgia.
Her attorney Jeffrey Morganroth says Beatty has "been in a tough situation."
Kilpatrick is serving a 28-year sentence after his conviction on corruption charges. Attorneys seeking a new trial for Kilpatrick will argue Tuesday before the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.
