4 suspects arrested in string of Illinois church burglaries

MARION, Ill. (AP) - Police have arrested four suspects in connection with a string of church burglaries in at least three southern Illinois counties.

Three Marion men and one Creal Springs man were arrested this weekend following the report of a burglary at a Marion church Friday afternoon. A detective with the Marion Police Department says the arrests were made Saturday after two stolen guitars and an amplifier were discovered at a pawn shop in Paducah, Kentucky.

Police say the men have robbed at least 10 churches in Williamson, Johnson and Union counties since December. Police believe the suspects stole hundreds of dollars' worth of items from the churches.

The men are now facing criminal charges, including burglary, criminal damage and possession of stole property.
