UAB president faces no-confidence vote from students

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The president of the University of Alabama at Birmingham faces a potential no-confidence vote from students after killing three sports including football.

UAB's Undergraduate Student Government Association is set to vote Tuesday night on a resolution critical of President Ray Watts.

An SGA report issued Monday says Watts failed to include others in decision-making. It describes the football, rifle and bowling shutdowns as part of that pattern.

UAB's Faculty Senate has a no-confidence vote set for Thursday.

And alumni association board members issued a statement Monday saying they had no-confidence in Watts until Jan. 9. That's the day Watts promised a review of financial assumptions behind the athletics decision.

Watts has said he's not quitting, and no-confidence votes are largely symbolic since only university trustees can fire the president.
