Ken Hatfield, ex-Arkansas coach, 2015 winner of Stagg Award

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Former Arkansas football player and football coach Ken Hatfield has been given the 2015 Amos Alonzo Stagg Award by the American Football Coaches Association.

The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the advancement of football. It was presented Tuesday.

Rice coached Air Force, Arkansas, Clemson and Rice, and retired in 2005 after coaching the Owls. He led his teams to 10 bowl games and had three teams finish with 10-win seasons.

His final 18 teams all finished in the top 20 in rushing offense. In 2004, his Rice team led the nation in rushing, with nearly 307 yards per game. His 1988 Arkansas team led the nation in turnover margin.

His 1990 Clemson team was best in the nation in total defense.

Hatfield was AFCA president in 2004.
