French government honors Illinois World War II veteran
WARRENVILLE, Ill. (AP) - The French government has formally honored a suburban Chicago World War II veteran for secret missions he flew as an Air Force pilot.
The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1Bb82cu ) that 95-year-old Ed Kregor received the Legion of Honor medal on Sunday at the VFW post in Warrenville. He flew dozens of missions to drop supplies and weapons to the resistance in Nazi-occupied France in 1944. Vincent Floreani is consul general of France in Chicago. He presented the medal.
Floreani told Kregor "every French person has a special place in his heart for you."
Kregor says he never thought much about awards, but receiving the medal "means so much."
