Southeastern Indiana man faces June trial in fatal shooting

LIBERTY, Ind. (AP) - A southeastern Indiana man faces a June murder trial in the fatal shooting of a man killed moments after the victim allegedly told him "just shoot me and put me out of my misery."

Forty-two-year-old Bert McQueen III of Brownsville had been scheduled to stand trial Jan. 13 in the September killing of Brandon Wicker.

But the Palladium-Item reports (http://pinews.co/1KzHUfw ) a Union County judge rescheduled the trial for June 2 at the request of McQueen's court-appointed attorney.

A police report says McQueen told officers he and Wicker had been drinking before Wicker allegedly told McQueen "just shoot me and put me out of my misery."

McQueen told officers he picked up Wicker's gun, pointed it at Wicker and pulled the trigger, but that he didn't expect the weapon to fire.
