Iowa City police officer adjusts 'Coffee with a Cop' program

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa City police officer says he has adjusted his "Coffee with a Cop" program to increase participation in 2015.

Officer David Schwindt started "Coffee with a Cop" last year. The program aims to let residents share concerns with officers while sharing coffee.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/1xdcQru ) the first few meetings had low attendance. But a meeting with a local group drew the largest audience. Schwindt says he wants to encourage arranged meetings with businesses or school groups.

Schwindt says there is a need for this kind of communication because of recent high-profile killings involving police officers around the country.

Schwindt adds he wants to host six coffee events this year, but he needs more groups to show interest in meeting.
