Horror film made in Indiana receives year-end recognition
RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) - An Indiana-made horror film is getting some attention on year-end lists.
"Proxy" was written and directed by Zack Parker of Richmond. The film follows the life of a pregnant woman who loses her child during a vicious attack and develops a friendship at a support group for grieving mothers.
It debuted in September 2013 at the Toronto International Film Festival and was distributed to U.S. theaters and through on-demand companies in 2014.
The film was ranked No. 1 on the Ain't It Cool News Horror List of Top 31 films and No. 2 on the United Kingdom's Daily Record newspaper's list of Top 10 Horror Films. It also made a number of other horror movie Top 10 lists.
"It's pretty exciting," Parker told the Palladium-Item (http://pinews.co/1wCDL0Q ). "It's nice to get recognition here at the end of the year. It's nice to know people are enjoying your work."
Parker said the year-end recognition will help fuel interest in the film as DVD and Blu-ray releases are planned in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Japan and several other countries this year.
"With all the countries, it can take a while to get there," Parker said. "Each country has had an individual cover art design. It's interesting to see how each country sells the film in a different way in terms of the design and how it's marketed."
Parker plans to use the interest in "Proxy" as leverage to make bigger and better films. He says his next project will have a larger budget, more prominent actors and will be shot in Chicago this spring.
