Suburban Chicago woman stabbed 20 times flees to theater

DEER PARK, Ill. (AP) - Police say a suburban Chicago woman stabbed more than 20 times was able to escape and run into a movie theater lobby for help.

Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Curtis Gregory says 24-year-old Katherine M. King of Vernon Hills was in critical condition Friday in the intensive care unit of an Arlington Heights hospital.

Gregory says 18-year-old Daniel Dion of Des Plaines used a 4-inch serrated, combat knife to attack King inside a car in the parking lot of the theater. Dion told detectives he met with King under the ruse they'd go to a movie. He said she annoyed him.

Dion is charged with attempted murder and three counts of aggravated battery. He's being held in the Lake County Jail. Online Jail records didn't indicate whether he had an attorney.
