Illinois man convicted of abusing boy, breaking his skull

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man has been convicted of abusing a 7-week-old boy so severely that he broke the child's skull, one of his legs and several ribs.

The (Alton) Telegraph (http://bit.ly/1xPhH7r ) reports that a Madison County jury deliberated less than two hours Thursday before finding 20-year-old Kamryn Kerr of Granite City guilty of four counts of aggravated battery to a child.

The child's mother, 19-year-old Ashlee Wethington, also is charged. She has pleaded not guilty, and her case is pending.

Kerr and Wethington were arrested last September after the injured baby was brought to a hospital.

The child's grandmother, Peggy Wethington, says her grandson has recovered and is in foster care.

Kerr's sentencing date was not immediately set. He faces up to 120 years in prison.
