High winds prompt warning for those crossing Mackinac Bridge

MACKINAW CITY, Mich. (AP) - Drivers are being urged to use caution while crossing the Mackinac Bridge due to high winds in the Straits of Mackinac.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority says in a posting Friday morning on its website that vehicles that are especially vulnerable to high winds include pickup trucks with campers, motor homes, vehicles pulling trailers and enclosed semi-truck trailers.

Motorists are instructed to reduce their speed to a maximum of 20 mph, turn on flashers and use the outside lane amid the wintry weather. Full details of the advisory are posted online.

The five-mile bridge connects Michigan's Upper and Lower peninsulas.
