No. 25 Western Kentucky tops Charlotte 76-61

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Alexis Govan scored 24 points and No. 25 Western Kentucky used a second-half surge to top Charlotte 76-61 on Thursday.

Govan was 10 of 15 from the floor, including 4 of 4 from beyond the arc, and grabbed eight rebounds. Chastity Gooch added 21 points and 11 boards.

Western Kentucky (13-2, 2-0 Conference USA) jumped out quickly and led by as much as eight in the first half. But Charlotte closed the half on a 14-8 run, including a three-point play by Ayanna Holmes with 29 seconds left, and trailed by just three at the break, 39-36.

It was tied at 46 almost 4 minutes into the second half when Western Kentucky went on a 16-3 run to take control of the game. Charlotte (4-10, 0-2) suffered a 7:15 scoreless drought where the 49ers missed 15 consecutive shots.

Kira Gordon paced Charlotte with 13 points.
