Wisconsin AG asks court to strike down gun lock ordinance

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel has joined 25 other states in asking the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down a San Francisco ordinance requiring people to keep their guns locked up at home.

The National Rifle Association has challenged the ordinance. The 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals upheld the ordinance in March, saying it was a reasonable attempt to boost public safety without trampling on Second Amendment rights.

Wisconsin Department of Justice spokeswoman Anne Schwartz says the states filed the request late Wednesday.

Schimel, a Republican, said in a statement Thursday that the 9th Circuit's decision could influence policy decisions and court rulings that affect people's rights in their homes across the country.
