Eastern Iowa community seeking another mayor

SABULA, Iowa (AP) - An eastern Iowa community will have to look for another mayor again after its current one quit after only eight months on the job.

The Quad-City Times (http://bit.ly/1Iu8Ol4 ) reports the Sabula City Council held a special meeting on Monday night to accept the resignation of Don Thayer, who notified the council on New Year's Eve that he was leaving. In his resignation letter, Thayer said he couldn't work with a council that doesn't have the city's "best interest at heart."

The Sabula City Clerk says the council will seek residents to be appointed to the mayor position. The council hopes to have one appointed before next month.

The last mayor before Thayer resigned in May and didn't provide a reason for his departure in a letter to the council.
