Corps of engineers moving ranger station to Iowa

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has closed its ranger station in Quincy and is shifting services there to its ranger office in Muscatine, Iowa.

Lead ranger Cindy Klebe says personnel in the Quincy office were moved earlier this month to Iowa. The Muscatine office will oversee recreational programs for the area between Mississippi River Lock and Dam 16 in Muscatine and Lock and Dam 22 at Saverton, Missouri.

Klebe notes spring flooding in the Quincy area in the spring means little recreation takes place in the Quincy area before August. She says the corps will continue to maintain recreation and day-use areas in the Quincy area, including the Bear Creek Recreation Area near Ursa.

The ranger program oversees campgrounds, day-use facilities, boat ramps and forested land along 314 miles of river.
