Evansville teen sentenced to 20 years for throat slashing
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - An Indiana judge has sentenced an 18-year-old Evansville woman to 20 years in prison for cutting a man's throat with a box cutter.
Vanderburgh Circuit Court Magistrate Kelli Fink sentenced Claudia DeTalente on Tuesday. The sentenced was part of a plea deal.
The Evansville Courier and Press reports (http://bit.ly/1yAal9c ) that DeTalente barely spoke during the hearing and was visibly tearful. DeTalente pleaded guilty in October to attempted murder. She was 17-years-old when she was arrested in June after authorities said she slashed Quaevion Emerson's throat while he slept.
Defense attorney Heather Burton says the attack happened due to distress about a romantic relationship.
DeTalente will be eligible for parole from the Indiana Department of Correction in a little less than a decade.
