Teen Eagle Aids Cats & Dogs

On December 27, 2014, Nick Clarizio of Arlington Heights Boy Scout Troop 34 was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout after successfully completing all Boy Scout of America requirements, including an Eagle Scout Project. Nick's Eagle Scout Project benefitted The Buddy Foundation, a no-kill animal shelter, located in south Arlington Heights. Nick's Eagle Project included a video for The Buddy Foundation's website. The website video featured some of the cats and dogs available for adoption at The Buddy Foundation, as well as adult volunteers and several Troop 34 scouts. Nick was aided by technological assistance available at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. Nick's Eagle Project also included the production of a dozen donation banks for The Buddy Foundation. Nick developed and supervised the construction of the donation banks by Cub Scouts from Pack 169 working on their Craftsman badge. The donation banks were then placed by volunteers at commercial establishments to collect cash donations for The Buddy Foundation. Nick is an honor student at Thomas Middle School, active in several sports and as a community youth volunteer. Boy Scout Troop 34 is led by Scoutmaster Mark Goodmanson and meets at Thomas Middle School in Arlington Heights. Cub Scout Pack 169 is led by Cubmaster Steve Neill and meets at Olive-Mary Stitt School in Arlington Heights. Both Troop 34 and Pack 169 are sponsored by area Rotary Clubs.
