Lincoln home to be draped for funeral recreation
SPRINGFIELD - The National Park Service plans to drape Abraham Lincoln's home in black mourning bunting the way it was 150 years ago during the 16th president's funeral
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports the Lincoln Home Historic Site has other events planned for the weekend of May 1-3, when his funeral will be recreated in his hometown.
Dale Phillips is site superintendent. He says the Lincoln home's door and windows will be draped as it was immediately after Lincoln was gunned down April 15, 1865.
The decoration became more elaborate between his death and his May 4 funeral. But Phillips says adding the same greenery and other items could damage the home.
Hours at the home will be extended May 1 and 2.
