Recycle your old holiday light strands

Did you know you can recycle your Christmas light strands at Kane County electronics drop-offs spots and upcoming events?

Bring those old, burned out holiday light strands to the recycling event on second Saturdays, Jan. 10, Feb. 14, March 14, along with any other electronic items you want to recycle.

For a full list of acceptable items, visit www.countyofkane.org and click on "Recycling." The monthly event is from 8 a.m. to noon at 540 S. Randall Road in St. Charles.

You also can deliver light strands to the permanent drop-off locations located throughout the county. For a list of sites, visit www.countyofkane.org.

Lights entwined in garlands must be removed from the garland, and the garland disposed of separately. If you can't remove the garlands from the lights, the lights aren't reusable and must go in the trash. Place lights in a box or bag.
