IU Health planning new hospital in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University Health officials are working on plans for building a new hospital in Bloomington.

IU Health Bloomington Hospital president Mark Moore says a decision is expected within about a month from the statewide system on moving ahead with the project.

Moore tells The Herald-Times the new hospital would have about 200 inpatient beds with all private rooms, along with an outpatient surgery center. The current hospital has 279 inpatient beds.

Moore says a decision hasn't been made on whether the new hospital would be built at its current campus or on an 85-acre site it owns on the city's west side. He says it could take a year for design and development work on the new hospital, followed by two years of construction.
