Schaumburg parks monitor skating safety

The Schaumburg Park District will report ice skating conditions for three ponds this winter.

Always check conditions before heading out to ice skate at Schaumburg Park District ponds.

The ponds are Volkening Lake at 900 W. Schaumburg Road; Gray Farm at 120 N. Cloverdale Lane; and Twin Ponds at Lance Creek, 539 S. Summit Drive.

Ice checks are completed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for thickness and safety. Ponds will display the green flag for safe skating and red for unsafe.

Conditions will be reported at parkfun.com under Parks/Ice Skating. After conditions have been reported, they will only be updated when conditions change from the previous report.

All other Schaumburg Park District ponds will always remain closed with a red flag.
