Man pleads guilty to robbing Batavia store while kids at home

A 28-year-old man accused of robbing a Batavia liquor store in January while his three kids were left alone at an apartment has pleaded guilty, according to Kane County Court records.

Antwann L. Hunt, of the 1300 block of South Spaulding Avenue, Chicago, was set to go on trial this week and pleaded guilty to felony armed violence.

Hunt faces between 10 and 30 years in prison when sentenced Jan. 23, 2015 by Judge Susan Clancy Boles.

Probation is not an option.

Hunt pleaded guilty in exchange for prosecutors dismissing charges of armed robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and child endangerment, records show.

According to police and court records, Hunt left his children, ages 1, 4 and 6, at an apartment on the 1100 block of East Wilson Street before robbing a 36-year-old clerk at knife point at the Batavia Pantry, 929 E. Wilson St.

During the robbery, there was a scuffle with the clerk, who later called police with a suspect description.

Police later found a man matching the description running on the 1000 block of Wilson Street, authorities said, and Hunt was caught with a knife and the stolen cash.

Since his arrest, Hunt has been held at the Kane County jail on $300,000 bail.
