Recycle Christmas tree lights at Kane event

Christmas tree lights not working? Dispose of them responsibly at the Kane County Recycles event from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday Dec. 13, at 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.

Attendees are asked not to arrive early, as this creates a traffic jam before the event opens.

At the event, you can recycle electronics, including: Christmas lights, computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions (any size or age), stereos, cellphones, microwaves, and more. Workers will unload for you.

The center accepts books of any age and condition for reuse or recycling.

Documents are shredded on site. You can watch them being tipped into the shredding trucks. The limit is four boxes or paper bags of documents. The center asks that you remove any plastic or metal bindings and binder clips, but it's OK to leave in envelope windows, staples, and paper clips. Document shredding is for residents only; no documents from businesses. The center has the capacity to receive 25,000 pounds of documents, but must cease once the trucks are full. First come, first served.

The center does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators.

For details, call Kane County recycling coordinator, Jennifer Jarland, at (630) 208-3841; email recycle@countyofkane.org or visit the website. A complete list of accepted items, and more information can be found at www.countyofkane.org/recycling under "Electronics Recycling" and "Document Shredding."
