Fremd rebounds at Downers Grove South
Fremd bounced back from its first loss of the season with a nonconference road victory Tuesday.
Paced by a team-best 15 points from senior guard Zach Schoffstall, Fremd topped Downers Grove South 51-41.
Payton Kim and Xavier Williams contributed 10 points apiece for the Vikings (6-1), and sophomore Brian Dompke contributed 6 points.
"Overall, I thought we played pretty well," said Fremd coach Bob Widlowski. "Defensively the kids did a nice job, and I was pleased with how we shared the ball."
Glenbrook North 65, Maine West 56: Senior Pat Hamilton finished with a game-high 27 points and had 25 through the game's first three quarters as the host Warriors suffered a setback in their Central Suburban North opener.
Hamilton finished 5-for-8 from 3-point range.
Julian Dones (16 points), Matt Acevedo (13) and Stefan Balaban (12) gave Maine West good scoring balance.
Maine West (1-5, 0-1) was within 4 points with two and half minutes left before the Matthias Kim (10 points) made 8 of 9 foul shots to keep Glenbrook North in front.
Christian Liberty 73, St. Benedict 70 (OT): The host Chargers prevailed in a nonconference thriller behind 22 points and 18 rebounds from Paul Weiss, 20 points from Ben Kemper and 17 points from Sam Silva.
Silva and Kemper both had a pair of 3's for Christian Liberty (2-5), which won its second straight. The Chargers were outscored 23-11 in the fourth quarter before winning the OT session 12-9.
