Wintry weather mix could cause problems for morning commute

Motorists are being warned to use caution when driving this morning because of a wintry mix of precipitation that will move across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.

The National Weather Service said the main band of troubling weather will move into the Chicago region between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.

The band is expected to bring a mix of rain, snow, and sleet, officials said.

Motorists and pedestrians should use extreme caution when traveling, officials from the National Weather Service said. Roadways and sidewalks could become exceptionally slippery.
