GOP is the reason for declining deficit

Ms. Harris, your knowledge of American history is lacking ("GOP has no ideas for cutting deficit," Nov. 17). The only time we have had a surplus in the federal government in the last 60 years is when the Republicans controlled both Houses of Congress, from 1994 until 2002. Your Democratic Party in 2008, with both Houses under their control, provided the U.S. with a $1 trillion deficit.

Your letter is filled with so much misinformation I really wonder if you live in this country. The only reason the deficit is declining is because the Republicans control the House and Mr. Reid (Senate majority leader) refuses to call any bills to the Senate floor. You may or may not know that he is a Democrat from Nevada.

If you honestly believe that Obamacare is going to lower health care costs, I can provide Santa Claus' address and you can explain your delusions to him. Republicans lowering taxes only for the rich is a fairy tale that the Democrats have been selling to the naive forever, and there are still some buying it as evidenced by your letter.
