Rockford church holds prayer vigil for Ferguson

ROCKFORD - About 100 people have gathered at a Rockford church for a prayer vigil after violent protests last week in Ferguson, Missouri.

The Rockford Register Star reports the crowd gathered at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday. They prayed for Ferguson residents, police, protesters and government leaders. The protests were sparked after it was announced on Nov. 24 that a grand jury had decided not to indict a white police officer in the shooting death of an unarmed black teenager.

The Rev. Kenneth Copeland says the vigil was an opportunity to turn frustration into something positive.
