Indiana church hoping for return of stolen symbol

COLUMBUS, Ind. - Members of a central Indiana church are hoping for the return of a musical instrument and religious symbol stolen during a recent burglary.

Pastor Gerry Ballard says the brown and tan, 30-inch shofar that resembles a ram's horn was apparently the only item stolen from the Seventh Street Church of God in Columbus.

Ballard tells The Republic that whoever broke into the church late Nov. 7 or early Nov. 8 scattered many items around his office and other parts of the building.

Patrick Griffin acquired the modern shofar in Israel and presented it to the church just days before the burglary. Griffin says the shofar belongs to God and the church would like to get it back.
