1 man dies in house fire near Superior
TOWN OF SUPERIOR, Wis. - One man has died in a house fire near Superior in northwestern Wisconsin.
It happened around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the Town of Superior. Crews arrived to find the lower floor of the two-story house engulfed.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says several family members were able to escape, but 28-year-old Zebulun Downey did not. WDIO-TV reports he was last seen in the basement trying to put the fire out.
The sheriff's office says the fire spread so quickly that the entire structure collapsed in about 15 minutes, but crews remained on the scene until mid-afternoon to recover the body.
