Carol Stream seeks redevelopment proposals for 2 acres
Carol Stream officials are looking for someone to buy and develop roughly 2 acres the village owns at 850 Vale Road.
A vacant house, built in 1959, sits on the property near Vale and County Farm Road.
The village acquired the land last year for $305,000, Village Manager Joseph Breinig said. Its purchase allowed the village to annex other sites in the area, Community Development Director Bob Glees said.
Village officials are requesting proposals for residential or commercial redevelopment.
"We really don't have a preference," Glees said. "We're open to proposals and we will evaluate them and if one seems to be of benefit to the community, then we will meet with the developer and review the plan and see if we can negotiate a development agreement and go from there."
The property is near other houses and some commercial properties, and is one block north of North Avenue, Breinig said.
"So it's not as if this is a quiet, little residential neighborhood and we're looking at placing something that's completely out of keeping with the area," he said.
