Chicago congressman supports Obama on immigration

Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez is traveling to Nevada with President Obama. There the president will promote an executive order on immigration that allows nearly 5 million people in the U.S. illegally to "come out of the shadows."

The Chicago Democrat has long promoted immigration reform. Gutierrez says he celebrates Obama's courage, and will sign up qualifying families.

The president's unilateral actions will spare mostly parents and the young from deportations. The administration is also setting new enforcement priorities that could make it easier for more people in the U.S. illegally to stay in the country.

Republicans are expected to quickly mount legal and legislative challenges.

Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas says the president is intent on provoking a constitutional crisis by adopting policies that he previously said were illegal.
