Illinois Senate: Make tollway speed limit 70 mph
The Illinois Senate sped forward to override Gov. Pat Quinn's veto of legislation that could raise speed limits on tollways to 70 mph.
The proposal, from state Sen. Jim Oberweis, a Sugar Grove Republican, follows a new law from last year that raised the speed limits on downstate interstates.
The Senate voted 44-5 to override Quinn after no debate.
The plan now moves to the Illinois House, where lawmakers would also have to override Quinn for the new speed limit to become law.
Oberweis recently was a candidate for U.S. Senate, but lost Nov. 4 to Democratic incumbent Dick Durbin.
