Chicago police officer indicted on obstruction

A Chicago police officer who allegedly used excessive force by beating a man and then lied in a police report has been indicted on federal civil rights and obstruction of justice charges.

The U.S. attorney's office says Tuesday's federal grand jury indictment of 37-year-old Aldo Brown stems from a Sept. 27, 2012 incident in a convenience store. Brown is accused of punching the person and then - when the man was handcuffed - kicking him. The man was arrested and a gun recovered. But Brown allegedly made a number of false statements in his report.

The police department says Brown has been stripped of his police powers and is on desk duty while court proceedings continue. Brown could not be reached for comment.
