Man pleads not guilty in shooting at Aurora restaurant
Two men accused of attempted murder in the Sept. 4 shooting of workers at an Aurora KFC restaurant are eligible for extended-term sentencing, if convicted, because of their criminal histories, a Kane County prosecutor said Wednesday.
Chase West, 20, was arraigned before Circuit Judge Susan Clancy Boles on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, armed violence and attempted armed robbery. He pleaded not guilty.
West could face 21 to 75 years in prison on the attempted murder charge. He faces 10 to 30 years on the armed violence charge, and up to 30 years on the armed robbery charges. All are Class X crimes, meaning he would have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence in prison.
On the three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm charges, prosecutors say he would have to serve the sentences consecutively, and serve at least 85 percent of each. He faces the possibility of six to 60 years in prison on each count.
His next court date is Jan. 8. West was being held in the Kane County jail on $1.5 million bail.
Joshua Scott, 26, pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, felon in use or possession of a weapon, armed violence and aggravated battery. Scott was being held on $1.5 million bail and his next court date is Jan. 7.
Three people were shot during the robbery at 1350 E. New York St.
Besides Scott and West, 45-year-old Claude Jackson was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and armed robbery. He's being held on $2 million bail.
According to police Jackson was armed with a rifle-type firearm. The three men ordered three male employees to go to the front of the store. When Jackson discovered no one could open a cash register, he shot each man once.
