The Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety reports the state has a 94 percent safety belt usage rate. In Illinois, during the Thanksgiving holiday period in 2012, about 700 people were injured and nine vehicle occupants died in traffic crashes, police said. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics show those least likely to buckle up are: teens; young adults; males; motorists traveling on rural roads; and individuals in pickup trucks, especially during the late night hours.
