District 41 classroom addition project on schedule

Construction is on track for classroom additions and associated space at all four elementary schools in Glen Ellyn District 41, officials said.

The roughly $13.5 million project is scheduled to be finished next year, Assistant Superintendent Bob Ciserella said.

The additions will allow the district to reduce its use of aging portable classrooms.

With the additions, each school will gain four new classrooms, and Churchill also will get a new art room and two bathrooms.

At Lincoln and Franklin schools, the classroom additions will be ready for students to use in January once they get back from winter break.

The additions at Churchill and Forest Glen schools are expected to be used by youngsters starting in August.

At Lincoln and Franklin, the additions are up with roofs, windows and doors.

Ciserella said crews are working on the interior walls, lighting and HV/AC systems .

"Once we got under roof, those are all the things we can complete in about the next six weeks," Ciserella said.

At Forest Glen, Ciserella said the site work has been completed, the underground plumbing is in and crews have started the masonry work for the addition.

"My hopes are to get that building under roof so we can work throughout the winter," he said.

At Churchill, site work also has been completed and crews are now preparing the site for a foundation and underground plumbing.

He said that work will have to stop once the cold weather sets in and will resume in the spring.
