Local Realtors recognized for community service
Realtors from Glen Ellyn, Lombard and Darien have been recognized with the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors' 2014 Community Service Award.
The Community Service Award honors Realtors who have made extraordinary commitments to improving quality of life in their communities through volunteer work.
This year's winners are:
• Richard Dunn of Coldwell Banker Real Estate in Wheaton: Dunn has spent the last 10 years helping to manage the First United Methodist Church Welcome Center in Glen Ellyn, which provides meals, clothing and shelter for homeless residents. He also pays the shelter's rent out of his own pocket. MORe will donate $500 to the First United Methodist Church Welcome Center in Dunn's name.
• Rachael Real of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Lombard: As a board member of the Lombard Town Centre's Economic Restructuring Committee, Real has helped to bring businesses and life back to downtown Lombard. Recently, she helped coordinate an outdoor Chicago Blackhawks viewing party that drew more than 700 local residents and families to downtown Lombard. MORe will donate $250 to the Lombard Town Centre in Real's name.
• Joe Kenny of Realty Executives Midwest in Darien: Kenny has volunteered at Chicago's First United Methodist Church homeless ministry almost every Saturday for the past four years, arriving at 6 a.m. to prepare hot meals and sort donated clothing for needy residents. He first volunteered thinking the event was a one-time occasion for holidays but continued after he learned it was a weekly service. MORe will donate $1,000 to the First United Methodist Church's homeless ministry in Kenny's name.
"MORe's 2014 award winners are examples of the good work Realtors throughout the region do each day to help better their communities and improve the lives of their friends, families and neighbors," said Michael Parent, MORe president and vice president of operations for Burnet Title's Chicago Region. "We are incredibly proud to shine a spotlight on these individuals and acknowledge their hard work and selfless commitment."
