Lake County prayer breakfast set for Nov. 25

Exchange Clubs of Lake County will host a free One Nation Under God Annual Prayer Breakfast from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Village Church of Gurnee, 1319 N. Hunt Club Road.

The event, open to the public, is hosted each year during the week of Thanksgiving to bring communities and businesses together and prayerfully acknowledge and appreciate the blessings of liberty bestowed upon the country. The program will begin with an opening prayer by the Rev. Todd Habegger, senior pastor of Village Church of Gurnee, followed by presentation of colors by the Gurnee fire and police departments; singing of "The Star Spangled Banner" by the Viking Park Singers; recognition of military veterans; and a keynote address by Lake County Chief Judge John Phillips.

State's Attorney Mike Nerheim and circuit court Clerk Keith Brin are among the others expected to attend. "God Bless, America" will be sung by 13-year-old Adelia Mahaffee of Gurnee, a student at Woodland Middle School. She is the daughter of former Assistant Lake County State's Attorney Shane Mahaffee, who was killed in Iraq in 2006 while serving in the U.S. Army Reserve.

A buffet style breakfast will be served. For more information, contact Hanna Blockinger, chair of the Prayer Breakfast planning committee, at (847) 244-6510 or Hannab56@comcast.net.
