To those who stole Halloween treats

For the past 20 years I have lived in my Geneva townhouse. Prior to that, we lived in Geneva when my two children attended Western Avenue School. I have lived in a total of three houses in Geneva.

I've usually placed the Halloween treats on my front door stoop in a tin or dish; this year in a very large box labeled, "Happy Halloween, take one and share."

Unfortunately this year the entire box and contents were stolen. The treats were present at 3:30 p.m. but gone around 4 p.m. The treats were all individually wrapped packages and consisted of Doritos, Cheetos, chips and some good cookies, etc. There were approximately 100 treats in this box.

Nothing like this has every happened before.

I placed a sign on my door saying that my treats were stolen, I witnessed a lot of disappointment on the faces, especially the faces of small children. How sad - one little fellow was dressed as a soldier. I can still see his little face when I didn't have a treat for him. I had not planned nor prepared for the need of a second treat and I had nothing to give him.

I especially remember him, as two of my grandkids are in the Marines.

May this letter be directed to those children who shall lavish themselves on these goodies; They should see the disappointment on the faces of the children who were not able to receive a treat at my house.
