Chicago house could be heaviest ever moved

Officials say the move of an 1888 mansion from Chicago's historic Prairie Avenue could be a record- breaker.

The Harriet Rees House is moving one block to make way for the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority's entertainment district, which will include a 10,000-seat arena and hotel.

Movers Butley & Andrews - founded in 1891 - say it could be the heaviest house moved in U.S. history.

Riding on 32 massive motorized dollies, the 762-ton house is 95 feet long, 25 feet wide and 72 feet high.

Weather permitting, the move will occur Nov. 11 and 12.

The home was built for the widow of a real estate innovator. It stood near homes built by George Pullman and Marshall Field.
