CP Holiday Train returns to Pingree Grove Dec. 4

The village of Pingree Grove is honored to be included once again as a stop on the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Tour on Thursday, Dec. 4.

This rolling fundraiser has been visiting communities across Canada and the U.S. in November and December for the past 15 years collecting donations for local food banks along the way.

Each Holiday Train features brightly decorated rail cars, excellent entertainers, special guests and includes a modified boxcar that has been turned into a traveling stage for performers.

This is a free event for the community. All they ask is that you bring a donation of a nonperishable food item for the food pantry. The Northern Illinois Food Bank will benefit from all donations collected in Pingree Grove so you will be helping those in our area.

In the past, Pingree Grove collected tens of thousands of pounds of nonperishables from local residents and had corporate check presentations for more than $100,000!

This is your chance to give back to those who need your help. You can make a wonderful difference in so many lives this holiday season with your generous gifts, while having a great time at the event.

The Reinking Road crossing will be closed starting at 9:30 a.m. until the train leaves at approximately 11 a.m. Make sure to be at the train stage before 9:30 a.m. for the train's arrival at 9:45 a.m.

The train stage will be open on the south side (village hall side) and you don't want to be on the wrong side of the tracks when it arrives. There will be live entertainment from Kira Isabella. Kira is a Juno nominated country music artist that has performed with Carrie Underwood's Blown Away Tour in October 2012. In 2013 she won the CCMA (Canadian Country Music Award) for Female Artist of the Year.

For details, call the village hall, (847) 464-5533.

At 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, the holiday train will be stopping in Gurnee at Viking Middle School park, Old Grand Avenue, featuring musical entertainment by Kira Isabella and Home Free, an American a cappella group, that was crowned season 4 champions of NBC's "The Sing-Off" this past December.
