2 men on trial in killing of Chicago police officer

A trial is underway for two men accused of fatally shooting a Chicago police officer when he tried to stop several men from stealing his motorcycle.

Paris McGee and Toyious Taylor are charged in the May 2010 death of 30-year-old Thomas Wortham IV.

Retired Chicago police Sgt. Thomas Wortham III testified Thursday he opened fire on McGee and Taylor outside his home. Wortham III said his son had just left his home after showing pictures of an East Coast trip. He said he reached his son just before he died.

Prosecutors say the 24-year-old McGee and 34-year-old Taylor acted as getaway drivers for cousins Brian Floyd and Marcus Floyd. Brian Floyd was fatally wounded in the shooting. Marcus Floyd is awaiting a hearing on his mental fitness to stand trial.
