Cheaper trash collection in Lake Zurich:

Lake Zurich residents will pay less for garbage collection under a new deal, village officials said in a news release. Village board members this week approved the contract with Waste Management Inc. Waste Management will supply residents with a 96- or 64-gallon, two-wheeled refuse cart beginning March 1. The move will follow a program last summer in the Manor and Lake Zurich Estates subdivisions, where residents tested the 96-gallon carts. When surveyed two-months later, 79 percent of residents said the big carts should be used throughout the village and 61 percent preferred an option for a smaller cart. Effective April 1, the monthly trash collection rate will decrease 11 percent to $22.39 for residents who opt for the 96-gallon cart and 22 percent to $20.39 for users of the 64-gallon cart.
