Roskam keeps 6th Congressional seat

Republican U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam kept his 6th District Congressional seat Tuesday, cruising to an easy victory over Democratic challenger Michael Mason of Naperville.

With all 564 precincts reporting, Roskam captured roughly 67 percent of the vote to Mason's 33 percent.

"I'm looking forward to representing the 6th District in the House of Representatives and working to try and find solutions to people's problems that are sometimes confounded by Washington, D.C.," Roskam said.

A Wheaton resident, Roskam said his top priority continues to be getting the economy back on track and getting Americans back to work in "high-quality, good-paying jobs."

The 53-year-old will be entering his fifth term as a congressman. He previously worked as a lawyer and served as a state representative and state senator.

During the campaign, Roskam said he thinks the Affordable Care Act began with worthy goals but is failing to deliver. Instead of repealing the act, he said he wants to focus his efforts on fixing some of its problems.

He also said there's a need for immigration reform, but he would like to see it implemented in well-thought out steps, starting with securing the southern border.

He said he's optimistic Republicans and Democrats in Congress can find ways to work together and he wants to be part of that.

The 6th Congressional District stretches from Naperville to Tower Lakes and includes parts of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties.
