Settler's Hill 'vision' not best for county

Martha Hanna is the Democratic Party candidate for Kane County Board Commissioner, District 11. I believe she is the best candidate for this position.

The issue which the Daily Herald is showcasing as the main issue is the redevelopment of Settler's Hill landfill. The Daily Herald has said the Martha Hanna "doesn't embrace the vision for the redevelopment of Settler's Hill that Donahue made a centerpiece of his time in office."

Let's look at the facts.

The original development plan called for a Ravinia-style outdoor concert venue in Fabyan East Forest Preserve, an area of Settler's Hill master plan that includes some of the oldest oak trees in Kane County.

Another "vision" of Mike Donahue's plan for Settler's Hill included a mountain biking obstacle course through the same woods. Martha Hanna was one of a group of local residents who successfully fought against these so-called amenities in the woods.

Mike Donahue stressed "Keep the Promise" to the people of Kane County to make Settler's Hill an amenity for the residents of Kane County but the plans for the cross-country running track have taken on more and more importance in Mike Donahue's "vision" for the redevelopment of Settler's Hill. Martha Hanna is not opposed to the cross-country track but endorses toning down the scope of its importance in the overall project.

The Daily Herald has said that Mike Donahue has "hand-picked fellow Republican John Martin." If elected, the hoped for plan will be inherited by John Martin along with the traffic and noise it will bring to the local citizens of Kane County. This is called "Keeping the Promise."
