How you can act a part in Dickens in Dundee festival

In preparation for the Dickens in Dundee holiday event, the village of East Dundee is seeking individuals and performing arts groups interested in performing inside or outside businesses windows from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, to come to the open casting call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 4 and Nov. 11, at the Depot, 319 N. River St., in East Dundee.

"We welcome local choirs, musicians and performance artists of all ages. We have numerous business windows throughout the historic downtown business district of Dundee that are interested in showcasing a holiday display. It is sure to be a magical night," said Karen Blair, marketing director.

In addition, the village is seeking character actors for six windows depicting scenes from "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. Roles include: storyteller, male/female adult; two children younger than age 12; Bob Cratchit, male adult, 20 and older; Scrooge, male adult, age 50 or older; Jacob Marley, adult male, age 30 or older; Mrs. Cratchit, adult, female, age 30 or older; Cratchit Family, children, ages 5 to 12; and Ghosts of Past/Present and Future, male, adult, age 30 and older.

Those interested in seeking a character role are encouraged to come to the casting call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 4 and 11, at the Depot, 319 N. River St., East Dundee. Photographs welcomed but not necessary.

In the tradition of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," each year during the first weekend of December (second weekend after Thanksgiving) downtown East and West Dundee come to life in a Victorian Christmas celebration with small town atmosphere. The weekend kicks off with tree lighting ceremonies, hot cocoa, a visit from Santa and live portrayals of Christmas scenes in the merchant windows along Main Street. Saturday begins with the cornerstone event: the Spirit of Christmas Parade. Other popular events include Gingerbread House Making, Festival of Trees, Santa's Petting Zoo and, Christmas tree sales by the Dundee Lions Club in Grafelman Park.
