Quinn campaign to focus on 'sporadic' voters

SPRINGFIELD - Key campaign strategists for Gov. Pat Quinn say they're focusing on turnout by "sporadic" Democratic voters in the final days before Tuesday's election.

The operatives spoke to reporters in a conference call Friday. Campaign field director Nellie Sires says they are confident Quinn will be helped by early and mail-in votes. They say the campaign also will be encouraging trips to the polls by Democrats who don't faithfully show up every election cycle.

Campaign manager Lou Bertuca says Republican challenger Bruce Rauner has raised more money but that Quinn's team has collected enough to get his message out "the old-fashioned way."

Rauner's political director Sarah Clamp responded that their campaign is confident in its ground game and is hitting its own targets for early and absentee votes.
