2 Louisiana children killed walking to school
BREAUX BRIDGE, La. - Louisiana State Police say a pickup truck hit and killed two schoolchildren who were walking to school and a third one was seriously injured.
Trooper Jared Sandifer says the children were hit about 8 a.m. Thursday in Beaux Bridge.
Sandifer says the two children died at the scene. A third was taken to a Baton Rouge hospital.
Sandifer says the pickup driver left the scene, but was arrested a short time later by Breaux Bridge police.
The truck was heavily damaged when it struck a roadside culvert. Sandifer says investigators don't yet know whether the children were in the way when the truck careened off the culvert or were struck before the wreck.
Troopers have not released the names or ages of the middle school students and the driver.
