3-D animator, illustrator are featured at Fall Art Outreach

Join the Arlington Heights Arts Commission at its 2014 Fall Art Outreach at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the Arlington Heights Village Hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Road, third floor, Arlington Heights.

The program features a presentation by Kip Gire, 3-D graphics animator with Luma Studios and media director for the Illinois Institute of Art in Schaumburg; Tom Katsulis, whose cartoons and animation projects have appeared nationwide; and Garrett Strother, who won the prize for Best Animated Short at this year's Teen Film Fest hosted by the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, co-sponsored by the Arts Commission.

Screenings of animation projects produced by Kip Gire and Tom Katsulis, as well as Garret Strother's winning film, "Dumming It Down," will be highlighted.

Networking begins at 6:15 p.m. with light refreshments. A performance by the musical group "Christian Liberty Strings" from the Christian Liberty Academy starts at 6:40 p.m.

Stained glass artist Will Hamm will be honored as the winner of the 2014 Arlington Heights Arts Commission Cultural Arts Award. Hamm's inspiration for his career began in 1972 when he visited Australia's churches and pubs that had several examples of stained glass. His techniques include the Tiffany method using copper foil, sandblasting and painting on glass.

His creations appear in public buildings, churches, homes and businesses in the area and throughout the United States. He has also passed on his knowledge in classes he has taught at Harper College and the Arlington Heights Park District.

The program is free. For information and reservations, contact Derek Mach, Arts Commission liaison, at arts@vah.com or (847) 368-5232.
