2 charged in shooting of off-duty Chicago officer
Two 19-year-old men have been charged in the shooting of an off-duty Chicago police officer.
A Cook County judge ordered Jordan Bailey and Abdourahmane Soumare held without bond Sunday. Prosecutors say they intended to rob the 41-year-old officer and his companion when they approached the officer's car early Friday. They say Bailey shot the officer as he sped away.
Police say the victim was hit in the chest and taken to a hospital, where his condition was stabilized. The officer has been on the force for eight years.
The men face multiple felony counts including attempted armed robbery. Bailey is charged with attempted first-degree murder.
Prosecutors say the gun used in the shooting was recovered from a vacant house.
Online jail records didn't list attorneys for the men.
